Variables

After configuring your run settings, you may want to create variables to then use them in your tests. To do so, access the Variables page from the LCT homepage. The use of variables is not mandatory but strongly suggested since it makes maintenance easier.

Variables are placeholders for any dynamic value you may want to include in your tests. Storing a value as a variable makes it easier when you need to change that value frequently, as you do not need to apply that change to each step where the value is included. For example, you may set the username as a variable, so that if you need to change it afterwards to test different user categories, you can modify the value from the Variables page and it will impact on every test where the username variable is included.

Refer to the animated image below to learn how to navigate the Variables page:

To add a new variable follow these steps:

  1. Click Add variable to start.

  2. Enter a unique name to identify the variable and press Enter to finish the creation process.

    Important

The variable name cannot be edited once created. Choose the name carefully.

  3. Complete the variable with the value to be reused and press Enter to save the update.

To delete a variable, click the trashcan icon.
