Create and run a test

Once you have your run settings configured and you have added any variable you may need to the variables list, you are ready to create your test and run it.

Each test includes a set of steps where each of them represents an action that the user or the system is expected to perform. The test validates that each condition, represented by a step, meets the expected result. For example, if you want to test your app's login process, the steps will include input actions to test the username and the password fields, and a tap action to test the login button, among others.

The sections below provide detailed instructions on how to create and run a test.

Create a test

You can create tests or edit existing ones from the Tests page (Branch Actions > Low-Code Test).

Important

You must configure your app's Android and iOS binaries, and your device farm credentials from the Run Settings section to run your tests.

To create a test, click Create test. You may also duplicate an existing test and edit the copy created. To do so, click the vertical three-dot icon to the right of the test and, then, Duplicate. The duplicated test name contains the word "Duplicated" between brackets to differentiate it from the original.

When you create or edit a test, the Test info page opens, where you can add or edit the test basic information. All fields in this page are mandatory. Follow these steps to start configuring your test:

Enter a unique name to identify the test. The test name is useful to track changes when merging branches.
Important
The test name cannot be edited once created. Choose the name carefully.
Enter a short text with meaningful information about the test's purpose and scope. The description should give greater context to help other users understand the objective of the test.
Enter the result expected when the last step of the test is successfully validated. For example, if you want to test your app's login process, the expected result would be that the user successfully accesses the landing page and finds a welcoming message on screen.
In the Pre-requisites field, enter any mandatory specifications to run the test. These specifications are used for informative purposes only and do not impact on your test. For example, if you want to test your app's login process, a prerequisite would be to have the login and the landing screens already built.
In the Tags field, enter keywords that help you identify the test in a search. This also allows easier management of multiple test, as tags can be used to filter tests and then run those selected simultaneously. Press Enter after entering each word to effectively add it as a tag and do not add spaces between tags. You can add up to 15 tags.

After configuring your test basic information, click Next to go to the Steps page. On the Steps page, click Add step to add a new step to your test and configure it.

Add the steps in the order you want to run them, as they cannot be reorganized afterwards.

Follow these steps to configure each of your test steps:

In the Description field, enter a short text with meaningful information about the step's purpose and scope. This field is mandatory.
Select a screen or test from the drop-down menu. If you select an existing test, its steps will be run as a step of this test. If you select a screen, the Component, Action, and Variable/Value fields will be enabled for you to configure the specific action to be tested on that screen. You may also search a screen by its name, sequence or view area. This fields is mandatory.

The list only shows those screens within the "S" sequence (productive screens).
Select the component to be tested from the drop-down menu. You may also search a component by its component ID. This option is enabled when you select a screen for the step.
Note
For component-type interfaces, the list of components shows the interface's component ID and the ID of that interface's parent component between brackets.

Select the component action to be tested from the drop-down menu. This option is enabled when you select a screen for the step. Refer to the table below to learn more about the actions available.

Input	Validates the information provided by the user. When you select this option, the Variable/Value field is enabled for you to complete with the information that the user is expected to provide (for example, the username or password to log into the app).
Tap	Validates that the component responds as expected when tapped by the user. For example, if you are testing a button, the step validates that the OnClick action is successfully performed when the component is tapped.
Assert Equal	Validates the information provided by the system. When you select this option, the Variable/Value field is enabled for you to complete with the information that the system is expected to provide (for example, a welcoming message on the landing page as final step of the login process).
Swipe	Validates that the component responds as expected when the user swipes it.
Checkbox	Validates that the component responds as expected when the user checks or unchecks it.

Complete the Variable/Value field with the expected value or with a variable previously configured on the Variables page. This option is enabled when you select an Input or Assert Equal action for the step.

To delete a step, click the trashcan icon to the right.

After adding all the necessary steps to your test, click Save to finish the creation process. Close the tab and go back to the test list, where you can find the new test ready to run.

To edit the configuration of a test, navigate through the tests list to find the desired one and click the pencil icon. To delete a test, click the more options menu of the test and, then, Delete.

Run a test

To run a test, make sure you have generated and published your app, so that all the latest changes are applied and included in the test. Then, on the LCT homepage, follow these steps:

Navigate through the tests list to find the desired one and click the play icon.
Select the binary or binaries that you want to test from the drop-down menu.
Check the "I already generated and published my app" checkbox.
Click Run to start the test run.

To run two or more tests simultaneously, click the checkbox to the left of the selected tests to enable the option and then click the play icon above the tests list, or click the checkbox to the left of the tests list's Test column and run all the existing tests at the same time.

When the execution of your test is finished, you can see the outcome of the test run in the Results page.
